Timeline
Ratchadamnoen Avenue

The avenue were designed in three parts: Ratchadamnoen Nok [Outer], Ratchadamnoen Klang [Central], and Ratchadamnoen Nai [Inner], each changing direction when crossing over a city moat, marked by beautiful bridges of European designs. All plots of land reclaimed in the construction of the avenue was fairly compensated by the government. Construction began with the Outer section of the avenue, from Dusit Palace to the old city moat at Phanfa Lilat Bridge. After the completion of the construction, King Chulalongkorn presided over the inauguration of the avenue as well as the Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge, on the auspicious occasion of his 50th birthday anniversary in 1901. Subsequently, the construction of the Central and Inner sections followed. All three parts of the avenue were completed by 1903. In addition to being the most beautiful street in Bangkok, Ratchadamnoen Avenue is also historically very important, as it was the site of many civic pageantry as well as important political events in modern Thai history.
